Eligibility Requirements

2019-2020 Sports Eligibility Requirements

Academic & Age Requirements:

Academic: Students trying out for interscholastic athletic teams must be in the 7th or 8th grade in order to be eligible. For the first semester, a student must have been promoted to the next grade level. For the second semester, a student must also have passed all but one subjects at the conclusion of the previous semester completed in order to be able to participate in school sponsored athletics in the current semester.

Age Requirement: Student must not have reached his or her fifteenth birthday on or before August 1, 2019.

Physical Examination Requirement:

All student athletes' VHSL 2018-2019 physicals expire on June 30, 2019. Therefore, in order to participate in any athletic activities including Patriot Pride, school-sponsored camps, open gyms, or any other school-related sports after June 30th, a student-athlete must obtain a new VHSL physical and submit it to the athletic director.

Managers: Any 7th or 8th grader who wants to be a manager must be approved by the coach and submit all parts of the VHSL physical form EXCEPT the doctor examination page.

Information about low cost, no appointment VHSL physicals (updated summer, 2017). Call the clinic before you go to confirm pricing.

  • Velocity Care in Daleville (46 Wesley Ave. 591-9440): $35.00 hours are Monday through Saturday, 8 - 8 and Sunday 10 - 6
  • MedExpress (many locations; I called the 5610 Williamson Rd. one (265-8924), but there are others too): $30.00; hours are 8 - 8 seven days a week
  • Alliance Xpress in Covington: (919 S. Craig Ave. 960-2231) Monday through Friday 8 - 8. Bring completed paperwork; $30.00

All locations require the child be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with valid photo ID. No grandparents. Cash only and be sure to bring eyeglasses or wear contacts for the eye exam. They also need to know the date of their last tetanus shot. The school has this on file.

Policy Meeting Requirement:

Every rising 7th-12th grade student-athlete must attend ONE policy meeting with their parent and/or guardian.  Both must stay for the entire meeting time, roughly 45 minutes, to get credit for attendance.  The meeting dates and locations are posted on this page.  You do not have to attend the policy meeting at your home school; select the one that works best in your schedule.
